We delivered a prestigious new operations centre in Brighton for American Express.
Part of American Express’s workspace improvement programme, this new office block accommodates call centre operations, executive meeting and office space, and ancillary staff facilities.
A separate services facility building was also constructed adjacent to the main building.
Our deep basement expertise streamlined the
41,000m 3 excavation operation with single corner props
previously used on another development maximising the working area
below ground.
Under an alternative foundation design formulated by our Design
Group, piles were replaced by a raft slab. In addition to cost and
programme benefits, this had the added environmental advantage of
avoiding disturbance to the aquifer below the site.
An art wall running at street level along the building’s rear facade contains picture fossils created by, among others, children from the nearby Carlton Hill Primary School and Tarnerland Nursery.
The project won Silver at the 2013 Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards.
