General Information

The Forum project has transformed the university’s Streatham Hill campus, providing a stylish new building which adjoins and links with existing key facilities.

Featuring a signature undulating gridshell roof, the new complex includes a new student services centre, an extended and refurbished library, new technology-rich learning spaces, a 400-seat lecture theatre, retail and catering outlets, a landscaped piazza and a new university reception.

Our in-house Design Group worked with the site team to develop a retaining wall system which allowed excavation works to take place along the length of the campus’s Devonshire House.

To improve environmental performance and ensure sustainability was embedded throughout the supply chain, we secured accreditation under the Green Accord scheme and encouraged our suppliers to do the same. The scheme offers guidance on practical means of increasing resource efficiency and reducing costs.

With the campus registered as a Botanic Garden, we altered our working methods to avoid disturbing an area of orchids and the low-lying roots of an established pine tree.

With our site occupying the heart of the campus, we implemented a host of measures to minimise disruption to student life and provided the university with practical solutions to operational challenges.

During the phased refurbishment of the library, which remained in constant operation throughout, a Noise Check Board was installed at the entrance to the building to keep users up to date with our activities.

The Forum was honoured at the 2013 Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage, received a RIBA National Award and won the Higher Education category at the World Architecture Festival 2013.

The project was also Highly Commended in the Structural category at the 2012 Wood Awards.
