After Wales Millennium Centre, creating a world class home for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales was a fitting encore.
Phase 2 of the Wales Millennium Centre comprises two new buildings, one of which will be home to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Built on reclaimed land in the city’s former Victorian docklands at Cardiff Bay, the buildings feature a 350-seat auditorium, one of the largest recording studios in the UK, rehearsal and performance space.
The smaller of the two buildings provides four storeys of office space for Wales Millennium Centre and the Arts Council of Wales.
The venue’s key acoustic spaces are isolated from vibration and noise using ‘box in box’ construction techniques.
BBC Hoddinott Hall won Silver in the Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards 2009. The team was praised for achieving high levels of safety and cleanliness and for its approach to environmental issues.
The venue won an Engineering Excellence Award for Building Services from the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) and was named winner of the Best Use of Panel Products Award at the 2009 Wood Awards.
