We have delivered a series of contracts as part of a major modernisation programme at the MetroCentre.
The Red Mall extension at Gateshead’s huge MetroCentre provides 34,500m2 of floor space and is home to a department store, 28 retail units and a multi-storey car park.
The project also involved construction of a transport interchange as well as road and infrastructure improvements including a new bridge spanning the main Carlisle to Newcastle railway.
We have undertaken a series of refurbishment projects at the centre including, most recently, remodelling the Yellow and Blue Quadrants, and upgrading the central mall with finishes reflecting its re-branding as the Platinum Mall.
We started working with the MetroCentre team two years prior to construction. This allowed us to fully integrate with the client’s team and share our expertise in planning, design issues and value management.
Construction of the new transport interchange was particularly challenging as it was built in the centre of the existing bus station and a full bus service had to be maintained.
In addition to our work at the MetroCentre, we have delivered a number of other contracts for client Capital Shopping Centres as part of the redevelopment of Eldon Square in Newcastle.
