General Information

Bristol’s largest city centre regeneration programme since the war, Cabot Circus provides 120 shops including 15 major flagship stores in 90,000m2 of retail and leisure space.

Featuring a spectacular glass roof over its central area, the complex includes more than 25 restaurants, a 13-screen Cinema de Lux and a 2,600-space car park.

250 homes have been built, mostly in the Quakers Friars area which provides a new public space around the development’s restored Dominican friary buildings.

We designed the temporary works for construction of the development’s basement. A stepped basement excavation was formed in poor ground conditions within a piled wall.

Our alternative raft design for the deeper level foundations replaced the piles of the original scheme, providing benefits in terms of cost and programme.

More than 75% of waste materials removed from site were recycled. The development employs rainwater harvesting and uses energy efficient LED lighting. The use of air conditioning is limited and the centre’s huge glass canopy maximises natural daylight.

The development is the latest in a series of contracts for the companies which make up the client Bristol Alliance: Hammerson and Land Securities. Previous contracts include the redevelopment of Birmingham’s Bullring and the West Quay shopping centre in Southampton.
